Dick’s Sporting Goods buys Promoted Tweet on #sportsbiz hashtag
Upon reviewing my saved #sportsbiz stream on Twitter this morning, I saw that Dick’s Sporting Goods has a promoted tweet going, just for the #sportsbiz hashtag. Obviously this stream is one of the more popular and consistently used on Twitter and has a captive audience. Curiosity got the better of me and I clicked on the link that Dick’s Sporting Goods included in the tweet, which led me to a Youtube link showing their partnership with Drew Brees and PACE Program (Protecting Athletes through Concussion Education).
I didn’t know this, but just a couple of months ago, Twitter stated that brands can now target Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts based on users’ interests. Twitter has created 350 interest categories to create audience segments brands can now target based on who the user follows, what they tweet and even from their usernames. Twitter has gotten mighty savvy with their revenue generations tactics as now a company can buy a promoted tweet for specific hashtags, just like their targeting based on interests. This is a great move as it allows companies get their message and brand out to a specific audience instead of blanketing all of Twitter, making it more cost effective for the brand as well.
Have you seen any other brands use a promoted tweet on the #sportsbiz hashtag or any other specific ones?

I need to get in touch w/ someone at Twitter – I'm pretty sure I was one of if not the first to use that hashtag, but I have no proof!
I am sure they have a search algorithm that can find that out.
#notsureIbelieveyou!
From what I recall….you were the first person I remember using the #sportsbiz hashtag
Thanks Trevor!
