Texas Rangers takes page from MLB playbook, makes Twitter private

January 9 2013, No Comments

Remember when the MLB made their Twitter account private for a few hours to giveaway prizes to only fans who were following the account? The Texas Rangers has followed suit as they shut down their Twitter account @Rangers to giveaway 15 tickets to their Fan Fest this weekend and the opportunity to be a #RangersSocialVIP, which includes a private meet and greet with Nelson Cruz.

Fans had 10 minutes to answer 5 questions and tag their answers with the hashtag #RangersSocialVIP (3 pairs of tickets were given out for each question). While questions were pretty easy and ranged from “Who wears #17 on the Rangers?” to “Who is the latest player to join the Rangers roster?”, it definitely generated some solid engagement and excitement for the fan fest as it garnered 2,800 mentions.
